Kenya President Ruto orders the evacuation of riverside dwellings amid flooding

NAIROBI — Kenya’s president on Tuesday ordered the evacuation of all homes along the country’s rivers after floods killed at least 169 people in the past month, with dozens more still missing.

The announcement came a day after a torrent of water swept away dozens of people near the town of Mai Mahiu, about 30 miles northwest of the capital, Nairobi. President William Ruto visited a school housing some of the many people displaced by the floods.
