Kendall Jenner isn’t afraid to let it all hang out.
The reality star has been the style industry’s highest-paid model for several years in a row, but she hasn’t always been so renowned.
In 2014, she made her first haute couture show for Marc Jacobs – wearing a sheer nipple jumper that caused a stir.
“I remember getting a call from my agent saying that Marc and Katie [Grand, the show’s stylist] I wanted to get into this kind of sheer top, and I was like, ‘I’m in. That does not bother me. I’m fine with the nipple,” Jenner, 26, told Vogue for the magazine’s “Life in Looks” video series.
“I was pretty cool even though my boobies were out,” she added. “It didn’t make me more nervous. I was really like, ‘Dope, all they want is their vision, let’s do it.’ So I was completely at ease.
The walker recalled that even though she had taken walking lessons from her agency before the big night, she still found herself “really stiff” on the runway – but had no jitters before the parade.
“I actually couldn’t believe I was there. Strangely, I had little nerves, and I think that was because my shoes were relatively flat — they weren’t big high heels,” Jenner said.
But the founder of 818 Tequila wasn’t always so confident; she also thought back to her first Met Gala appearance the same year, for which she wore a mermaid-style Topshop gown.
“I look at it now and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I look like a baby,’ but I felt like a woman,” she said of the look.
“I was using [sister] Kim [Kardashian]hair and makeup people so… I [felt] As [I was] embracing that woman side of me, and it’s so funny to look back at that moment now and be like, ‘Oh my god, you were such a kid back then.’
Jenner added that she “definitely was really nervous” because she only knew Kim and her then-husband Kanye West at the event, who both checked on her all night.
These days, the Met Gala is full of Kardashian-Jenners, which Kendall called “the best thing ever.”
She found her confidence as her personal style also evolved.
“I even think back to the first little girl we saw and how uncomfortable she was. And even the girl in 2014 at the Met Gala,” she said. “And then going into this girl that’s a lot more like, ‘I found myself as a woman, I found myself’… It’s cool to see.”
