Kelley’s Cafe in Cooley Corner robbed and burned

Lauderdale County, Ala. (WHNT) – Investigators are seeking information after a restaurant in Waterloo was robbed and set on fire on Saturday morning.

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Matt Burbank said someone broke into Kelley’s Cafe at Cooley’s Corner (8250 County Road 189, Florence) early in the morning. The assailant allegedly stole a bag of money and set fire to the building.

“The business owner had come early that morning to collect items and discovered the fire,” Burbank said. “After examining the crime scene, we discovered evidence that led us to believe that an arson had been committed and that it was not an accident.”

Burbank says the fire started after someone put flammable materials on the kitchen stove and inside their fryers.

The perpetrator will face multiple charges including second degree arson, third degree burglary and fourth degree theft of property.

Kelley’s Cafe said on Facebook that it plans to open as usual Tuesday at 11 a.m. standard time. They also thanked the community for their help.
