Katie Taylor retained her undisputed lightweight world titles with a narrow points victory over Natasha Jonas after an exciting fight in Manchester.
The Irish star shared another momentous encounter with Jonas, nine years after their fight in London 2012, as Taylor was forced to dig deep for the win with scores of 96-94, 96-95 and 96-95.
In a tense opening match, Taylor burst in to launch a flurry of fire as Jonas retreated to the ropes.
Taylor showed his speed in the second, pumping punches through Jonas’ guard before referee Marcus McDonnell stopped the frantic action following a heads-up clash.
Jonas hit back in the third, triggering a fiery exchange of punches, but Taylor responded with sharp blocks in the fourth.
Targeting the body, Taylor attempted to block Jonas’ aggressive assault in the fifth.
But Jonas remained firm, landing a hook that forced Taylor’s legs to dive into the sixth.
In a superb seventh, Taylor traded with Jonas, who relished the trade up close.
With his world titles at risk, Taylor pumped relentless punches in the eighth, and tore in a catchy right hand in the ninth.
Round 10 was a fitting final, with a torrent of punches from both fighters before Taylor was victorious.
