Kapil Sibal quits Congress; Nomination records for Rajya Sabha elections as independents with the support of the Samajwadi Party

Veteran Congress leader Kapil Sibal has resigned from the party. He filed his candidacy as an independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections with the support of the Samajwadi party.

“I had tendered my resignation from the Congress party on May 16. I filed a candidacy as an independent candidate. I always wanted to be an independent voice in the country,” Sibal said. He added that they want to create an alliance while remaining in the opposition in order to oppose the Modi government.

Sibal filed his candidacy for the Rajya Sabha elections in the presence of Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav and party MP Ram Gopal Yadav. “Today Kapil Sibal has submitted his candidacy. He is going to Rajya Sabha with the support of the SP. Two more people can go to the House. Kapil Sibal is a seasoned lawyer. He has presented his opinions well in Parliament. We hope he will present opinions both from the SP and from himself,” said Akhilesh Yadav.

Recently, Gujarat Congress leader Hardik Patel and former Punjab state party chairman Sunil Jakhar resigned from all positions in the organization. While Jakhar had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, Patel has yet to answer his call.
