Kalvin Phillips has advised staying at ‘biggest club’ Leeds despite transfer interest from Aston Villa and West Ham as Simon Jordan insists it’s ‘not an option’ for them Whites to lose the English star

Simon Jordan insists Kalvin Phillips would not join a bigger club if he left Leeds for Aston Villa or West Ham.

The 26-year-old white midfielder is expected to spark a bidding war between the two Bordeaux and blue clubs this summer.

Both are believed to have expressed serious interest, but former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan suggests Phillips may be wise to stay at Elland Road.

The England midfielder, who played at Euro 2020, has established himself as one of the most dynamic players in the Premier League.

His contract expires in 2024 and speculation is rife as to whether or not Phillips will sign a new contract or leave this summer.

Phillips’ absence through injury for much of the season has deeply affected Leeds – who are battling to avoid relegation.

However, Jordan believes that, despite their precarious position in the league, Leeds have the potential to overtake Villa and West Ham.

He argues Phillips could demote to Villa or the Hammers, while Leeds cannot afford to lose the Three Lions star if they are to fulfill their potential.

Jordan said: “I’m a big fan of Leeds United Football Club. I realize they have been out of the Premier League for a long time so their status as a club of importance has been significantly diminished.

“If Leeds can pull themselves together, they have a new owner, new American shareholders who will put the money behind [Andrea] Radrizzani and continue to develop the club.

“They had a difficult season. They need to focus on the here and now. Losing Phillips is not an option for them.

“We talk about Phillips and we talk about where he is. I think Leeds are a big club, Villa are a big club, West Ham are a big club – they are in a good position to be able to consider between three.

“If Leeds can focus and streamline and manage to support whoever runs this football club, I would like to think they [Phillips] would stay there.

“But you can argue for all three. West Ham have done wonders this year. I would argue, if I were Angus Kinnear and Leeds United, that the potential of Leeds and the size of this football club is as big, if not bigger, than Villa and West Ham.

Jordan added: “You could argue that Villa are an iconic football club. I would make less of an argument for West Ham.

“And I know West Ham fans are going to hate me intensely for that. They’re a London football club with a decent heritage that helped win the World Cup.
