Kai Havertz injury: Chelsea forward exits West Ham derby after Kurt Zouma challenge

Havertz once again led the Premier League leaders’ attack in the London derby with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner – both returning from injury – only named on the bench by manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Germany international missed a few chances during a hectic first half at Stratford, including shooting into the side net after Mason Mount – who was likely in an offside position anyway – got to the bottom of the net. signature and had squared the ball.

Chelsea led by Thiago Silva header from a corner at London Stadium, only for Manuel Lanzini to equalize from a penalty kick after Edouard Mendy took out Jarrod Bowen following a dismal throwback courtesy by Jorginho.

Chelsea restored their small advantage before the break thanks to Mount’s sublime volley and Havertz looked set to make it 3-1 in stoppage time.

However, the former Bayer Leverkusen striker was belied by an excellent sliding challenge from former Chelsea mainstay Kurt Zouma.

The tackle – although quite fair – left both players down and in need of treatment.

However, while Zouma was able to escape his problem and came back for the second half, Havertz looked very uncomfortable and was helped off the pitch as he made way for Lukaku.

Tuchel will undoubtedly be asked to provide an update on this latest injury setback after the game, having dealt with a number of issues over the past few weeks.

Although Werner, Reece James and Jorginho all returned against West Ham, N’Golo Kante stayed on the sidelines with Mateo Kovacic and Trevoh Chalobah.
