Jyothi Yarraji breaks women’s national record in 60m hurdles

Indian sprinter Jyothi Yarraji holds her third national record in just two weeks in the women’s 60m hurdles, after clocking 8.17 seconds at an indoor competition in France. The Indian improved her own record by a hundredth of a second at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas on Friday.
On the other hand, Dafni Georgiou from Cyprus won the race in 6.17 seconds. Georgiou, however, won the race with a better reaction time. Meanwhile, it was earlier last month that Yarraji broke the national record for the first time after running 8.2 seconds in Denmark.
But in the men’s 60m, Amlan Borgohain couldn’t make the final after clocking 6.95 seconds in qualifying. Last week, Yarraji and Borgohain took part in the Meeting Internacional Catalunya Pista Coberta in Spain. Borgohain had covered 60m in 6.87 seconds here, while Yarraji clocked 8.35 seconds to finish sixth in his final.
Yarraji and Borgohain are part of India’s 26-member squad for the Asian Indoor Championships in Athletics, to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, later this month.
