Jussie Smollett in the prison psychiatric ward

Jussie Smollett is held in the mental ward of a Chicago prison – and his brother is collapsing.

The 39-year-old ‘Empire’ actor, who remains in Cook County Jail after being sentenced to five months behind bars for masterminding a hate crime, was thrown into the room because of a paperwork problem, says his brother.

“What is very disturbing is that there was a note attached to the paperwork today, and it said on the front of his jail cell… that he was at risk of self-harm,” said said Jocqui Smollett on Instagram.

“I just want to make it clear to people that he is in no way at risk of self-harm and he wants to let people know that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is in very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that has finally been thrown at him,” the brother said in the post on Saturday.

“It’s not right,” Jocqui Smollett said. “It’s a total lack of justice. It’s annoying, it’s an outrage.

Jocqui Smollett said he was “angry” that his brother Jussie had been placed in the psychiatric ward at Cook County Jail.

Officials said last week that Jussie Smollett, who said he was not suicidal when he was removed from court on Thursday, would be taken into protective custody.

A law enforcement source told TMZ that the troubled actor is in the psychiatric ward because it is one of the areas of the prison where the most high-profile inmates are housed.

Jussie Smollett was found guilty of five counts of disorderly conduct after an eight-day trial stemming from the 2019 staged assault.

The actor claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in downtown Chicago in 2019 – with investigators later determining he conspired with two brothers to stage the attack because he was unhappy with his “Empire” salary.
