Jurgen Klopp says James Milner’s leadership and quality are ‘not replaceable’ at Liverpool

Urgen Klopp has revealed details of some of the conversations he had with James Milner before the midfielder signed a new contract at Liverpool on Monday, promising there is “more to come” from the veteran.

The 36-year-old remains a key part of the squad and has made 39 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign, including playing in both domestic cup finals against Chelsea.

Milner has spoken of the belief Klopp has given him that he can contribute to a team that has shown it can fight on all fronts even despite its years of advancement, while the Liverpool boss insists that there is no limit to his involvement.

Klopp believes the leadership and quality the 36-year-old gives his team is ‘impossible to replace’.

“Generally, the discussions we had around extending his contract centered on: what kind of contribution do we see him making as a player?” he told the club’s official website.

“My answer to him was the same that I will share with the fans: we don’t limit him. We just want the same from him, because it’s not possible to replace him. He can still do it and we don’t. we still need.

“So I’m grateful to him for answering the call and agreeing to give us the extra year of his extraordinary career. More to come.”
