June 10, 2024 War between Israel and Hamas

Israeli police and the Israel Security Agency released a video recorded with a helmet camera of the moment the three hostages were rescued in Gaza on Saturday.

They described the video as being of the operation carried out by Yamam (the police’s National Counterterrorism Unit) and Shin Bet agents “rescuing the hostages under heavy fire and eliminating the terrorists from Gaza.”

In a statement accompanying the video, which lasts about 45 seconds, they said that “Yamam and Shin Bet agents worked simultaneously at two locations to rescue the four hostages, engaging in fierce combat with the terrorists.”

Part of the video is blurry. It shows Israeli security forces approaching a property through a garden, then entering under heavy gunfire. CNN geolocated the garden as the same property where a Mercedes van believed to have been involved in the raid was located.

The video has been edited and the sound is cut out. It is unclear whether it was filmed in its entirety at the same location. It shows the three rescued hostages huddled in a room.

In the video, a voice says in Hebrew: “Here they are.”

“Nom, nom…” someone said.

Two of the hostages identified themselves as Almog Meir Jan and Andrey Kozlov.

Based on the clothes they were wearing when they were rescued, the three hostages then appear to be running around the property’s garden as the gunfire continues.

A bit of context: On Saturday, the Israeli army freed four hostages, three men and a woman, in a special operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. They are Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv. All four were kidnapped during the Nova music festival on October 7.
