The fight began with a superb opener from the challenger.

Warrington backed Martinez against the ropes and hammered him with combinations.

The pair then faced off and cut the Spaniard above the eye.

Warrington took advantage and floored Martinez with a huge right hook.

The champion got back to his feet and survived until the bell.

In round two, the same pattern continued as Warrington stormed again.

Martinez appeared stunned on several occasions as he was unable to cope with the Briton’s speed and punching combination.

The 36-year-old looked his age at the start, but the younger one had to step back in the third round, having expended so much energy in the first two.

The fourth was another grueling session as Warrington once again pushed Martinez against the ropes and fired combinations.

He absorbed further punishment in round five, but stubbornly refused to wither despite bleeding from cuts to both eyes.

As they reached the halfway mark, Warrington had clearly won every lap and also had a knockdown in his favor.

Martinez’s face was soaked in his own blood, but the old warrior continued to hold on until the referee was finally forced to step in and save him.

A furious flurry of punches staggered the Spaniard again and the relentless Warrington put the pressure on, prompting the referee to jump between them.

The new champion emphatically celebrated reclaiming his old belt as great featherweight fights await him once again.
