John Harbaugh on Lamar Jackson not regularly attending OTAs: It’s voluntary

The Ravens spent most of the spring practicing without quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The reigning NFL MVP has not attended four of the team’s five volunteer activities so far, ESPN’s Jamison Hensley reports. Josh Johnson took first-team reps in Jackson’s absence.

“It’s that time of year; it’s a voluntary momentRavens coach John Harbaugh said Thursday. “It’s really not something we comment on. We can’t, and it’s just the time of year. So I can’t speak in the name of someone who is not there.

Jackson also missed the start of OTAs the last two offseasons. Last week, he skipped the first day of OTAs, attended the second and skipped the final three.

Jackson was the only starter on the Ravens offense who was not present Tuesday, according to Hensley.

Harbaugh did not indicate whether he knew why Jackson did not regularly participate in the voluntary offseason program.

“I pretty much know the different reasons why guys aren’t there most of the time, but not always,” Harbaugh said. “No one has to tell you exactly what’s going on. So I’m not really going to be able to comment on anyone that way. But the guys that were here flew really well, and those were the guys that we had a great time training.

Jackson is entering the second year of a five-year, $260 million contract he signed a year ago.

The Ravens will have their final four OTA practices next week before wrapping up the offseason program with a mandatory minicamp June 11-13.

Harbaugh said he didn’t know if Jackson would attend next week’s practices.

“It’s just not something I’m really in a position to comment on.” So I do not know. We will see what happens,” he said.
