Poston – chasing his second career PGA Tour victory after winning the Wyndham Championship three years ago – said: “The first two days everything was going really well – I was doing well off the tee, the irons and I was making a lot of putts.

“Today the tee to the green wasn’t as sharp and I didn’t drive it as well. To still be able to shoot four under, which is always very solid, gives me some confidence for tomorrow.

“I hope I hit better, but if I don’t I still have the ability to shoot a decent number.”

Grillo, who opened the tournament with a 68, birdied on four of his final five holes to maintain his bid for a second career PGA Tour title heading into the final round.

He said: “If you shoot 68, 69 you are late. You have to watch this 67, 66 range, especially here with soft greens and perfect conditions.

“There’s hardly any wind and the guys who are shooting lower than three under up front are playing great – the opportunities are mostly on the back nine.”

Bo Hoag shot the fastest lap of the day, a 63, to move up 18 spots in the standings and tie with Chris Naegel (67) for sixth at 14 under, five strokes back.
