Directed by Gareth Edwardsthe visually stunning sci-fi thriller also stars Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpsonnewcomer Madeleine Yuna Voylesand Oscar winner Allison Janney.
“The thing about AI is that there is an ideal window before the robot apocalypse and not after, which is November or maybe December,” Edwards said in a interview with Collider.
We got lucky (with our release date). I tried to avoid putting a date. I didn’t want to write a date for the film because even (Stanley) Kubrick gets it wrong. At some point you have to choose a date, so I did some calculations and chose 2070. Now I feel stupid because I should have gone for 2023, with everything that’s happened over the past few years. last few months, or this last year.
It’s terribly weird. When we first pitched the film to the studio, this idea of war against AI, everyone wanted to know the backstory. They’re like, “Wait, why would we be at war with AI?” » We were like, “It got banned because it went bad.” » “But why would you ban AI? It’ll be great.”
There were all these ideas that needed to be put in place, that maybe humanity would reject this thing and not be so cool about it. And the way it happened, the staging of our film, pretty much looks like it has over the last few months.
The creator opens exclusively in theaters and IMAX on September 29, 2023.
