President Joe Biden sided with the Centers for Disease Control’s recommendation by wearing a mask Tuesday during an Air Force One trip to New Hampshire.
The president chose to wear a mask even though a federal judge struck down the CDC’s extended mask mandate on Monday, citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as the reason.
Biden exited the presidential limo wearing a mask and after shaking hands with an unmasked official he boarded Air Force One while continuing to wear his mask.
U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of the Central District of Florida ruled on Monday that the CDC’s mandate exceeded their authority. This prompted the Transportation Safety Agency to announce that it would no longer enforce the mandate, making the decision to voluntarily wear a mask.
Several videos of jubilant air travelers ditching their masks after airline employees made the announcement have emerged on social media, marking a new chapter in the return to normalcy during the coronavirus pandemic.
But the White House sided with the CDC directive, ordering all its staff and members of the media traveling with the president to wear masks while flying on Air Force One.

“While in transit today’s trip, masking will be required per CDC guidelines,” a White House aide told reporters traveling with the president.
The White House said Monday it was “disappointed” with Mizelle’s decision.
