Joe Biden to denounce Republican voting integrity laws as a domestic enemy of democracy

President Joe Biden plans to deliver an angry speech on Tuesday condemning Georgia’s election integrity laws, portraying Republicans as a national threat to the franchise and to democracy itself.

The White House has previewed clips of Biden’s speech that will describe him as a dominant force against the “shadow” and domestic threat posed by Republicans in Georgia and across the country.

Excerpt from the preview of the White House speech:

Will we choose democracy over autocracy, light over shade, justice over injustice? I know where I am. I will not give in. I won’t flinch. I will defend your right to vote and our democracy against all foreign and domestic enemies.

Biden will challenge the United States Senate for failing to advance legislation that would federalize state and local elections, outlawing election integrity laws passed since the 2020 election.

“So the question is, where will the institution of the US Senate be? Biden will ask.

The president will call on the Senate to end the filibuster rules, allowing them to pass voting rights legislation with a 50-vote majority in the Senate. But that might not be enough, as Senator Krysten Sinema (D-AZ) has vowed to defend the Senate filibuster, despite numerous complaints from the left.

Biden will attempt to link the January 6 protests of the 2020 election to the state’s voting integrity laws, signed by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in March.
“We have to make sure that January 6 does not mark the end of democracy but the start of a renaissance for our democracy,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday in a preview of the speech.

Voting rights activists have already called Biden and Harris’ trip to Georgia “more platitudes” and are skipping speeches.

Stacey Abrams, who is running again for governor of Georgia, also plans to skip the event, citing a scheduling conflict.
