Jill Biden highlighted her husband’s unity program ahead of the G7 summit in Cornwall, UK, wearing a blazer emblazoned with the word ‘love’.

Asked about the jacket on Thursday, as she and President Biden met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his new wife Carrie, the first lady told reporters: “We bring love to America.”

“I think this is a world conference, and we are trying to bring unity to the world,” she added. “And I think it’s important right now that people feel a sense of unity for all countries and a sense of hope after this year of the pandemic.”

Designed by French brand Zadig & Voltaire, the optimistic message of the black blazer was spelled out using pyramid studs. While the item is no longer listed on the brand’s website, a similar “love” jacket, in white, currently retails for $ 448.
The first lady paired the blazer with a polka-dot sheath dress by American designer Brandon Maxwell, who dressed his step-granddaughter Finnegan for the presidential nomination in January.

Political commentators were quick to compare Biden’s post with that of another famous FLOTUS outfit: the controversial Zara jacket, worn by former First Lady Melania Trump, which read: “I Really Don’t Care , From where ?

Trump was pictured wearing the infamous olive green parka in 2018 as she visited migrant children at a Texas border facility, with critics saying it reflected her husband’s border policies. Then-first lady spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said at the time that “there was no hidden message” before Donald Trump claimed it was a sarcasm aimed at “fake media”, adding: “Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she really doesn’t care anymore!”
A number of social media users posted side-by-side photos of the two jackets, with a Tweeter that Biden marked “a big difference from the days of Trump.” Another suggested that the choice of the blazer signaled the first lady to launch “serious shadow“on its predecessor.

Biden’s ensemble got approval from Zadig & Voltaire Artistic Director Cecilia Bonstrom, who posted about the jacket on Instagram with the message “Love @flotus wearing the @zadigetvoltaire LOVE blazer”.

This is not the first time Biden has worn the garment in public, having been pictured in the same blazer at a campaign rally in Philadelphia in April 2019. It is also not the first time that she has used her wardrobe to reinforce the message of the Biden administration.

At her husband’s inauguration dinner, Biden wore a dress embroidered with the official flowers of every U.S. state and territory – with the Delaware peach blossom sewn close to her heart. The designer behind the dress, Gabriela Hearst, said she was inspired by “the message of oneness”.

On Saturday, the first lady will meet with the spouses of other G7 leaders, before heading to Windsor Castle for an audience with Queen Elizabeth II the next day. His busy schedule will also see him meeting a group of volunteers who help British military veterans, as well as former servicemen who participated in the 1,000 mile “Walk of America” fundraiser.

White House Senior Associate Director of Communications Matt Hill suggested the message on Biden’s jacket was directed to the military, Tweeter that she “brought love to America, especially to the American military and their families serving overseas.”
