Jenna Ortega Sets the Record Straight on Crazy Johnny Depp Dating Rumors — Again.

When asked what the craziest rumor about him was, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice The star told Buzzfeed: “I was probably in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everyone to leave us alone.”

“It’s so crazy to me. I’ve never talked about this. I’ve never said anything like this. The articles really make up their own quotes, but I found it pretty hilarious,” Ortega said in BuzzFeed’s latest puppy-centric interview,

Apparently, this baseless rumor had a big impact, as one of her co-stars even asked her the question. “I was on set with Richard E. Grant, and he came up to me and said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny?’ And I laughed because I… I don’t know this person,” she said of the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

Rumors began circulating on the Deux Moi account last summer that the two had been spotted dating. At the time, Ortega reportedly vehemently denied the rumors in a since-expired Instagram story. Depp was quick to shut down the rumor, reportedly saying in a statement via his reps, “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega. He has never met or spoken to her. He is not involved in any projects with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”

Ortega also shared her first celebrity crush when she was still a child. At first, she admitted it had to be a cartoon character like THE The Fox and the Dogbut realizing she was surrounded by puppies, the Wednesday The star quickly changed her answer: “Now that I say it, it’s maybe a strange environment to say this,” she said with a laugh. “I always say my first crush was on Barack Obama — it was — it was when he was first elected, and I was in love.”

The next step for Ortega is Beetlejuice Beetlejuicein which she plays Astrid, the daughter of Lydia Deetz. The film’s sequel is once again directed by original director Tim Burton and follows three generations of the Deetz family as they return home to Winter River after an unexpected family tragedy. Lydia (once again played by Winona Ryder) is still haunted by the title character and struggles with the loss of her family when Astrid accidentally opens the portal to the afterlife. Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara reprise their roles in the film, and Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci round out the star-studded sequel’s cast.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters on September 6.
