Jeff Stelling: Sky Sports presenter reverses decision to quit Soccer Saturday

eff Stelling will remain host of Sky Sports Football Saturdays for at least another season.

The presenter announced his impending departure in October but reversed that decision, saying he was “not ready” to leave.

Having changed his mind, the 67-year-old told the Sky Sports website in quotes on Monday afternoon: “Sky Sports is my home and the Saturday football team is a big part of my life.

“As the end of the season approached and I was about to say goodbye, I realized that I was not ready to blow the final whistle and quit the best job in the world.

“I’m delighted to stay and delighted to push the show forward and create more special Saturday afternoons on Sky Sports.”

Sky Sports said Stelling had “decided to stay on as host for at least the 2022-23 season”, with chief executive Jonathan Licht saying: “Football fans around the world will be delighted that Jeff will continue to host Soccer Saturday.

“He is an integral part of Saturday afternoon life and everyone at Sky Sports shares the joy this news will bring.

“We just can’t get enough of Jeff and can’t wait to bring more of his broadcast magic to our viewers.”

In 1994, Stelling was given the role of presenter for Sports Saturday, which became Soccer Saturday four years later. He was also the main host of the broadcaster’s live Champions League coverage between 2011 and 2015.
