Ahead of the highly anticipated Asian Cup 2022, which was due to start on August 27, India has suffered a heavy blow with Jasprit Bumrahthe injury. The BCCIwhile announcing the 15-member squad, confirmed that Bumrah suffered an injury and due to this he is currently in rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru with Harshal Patelwho is also injured.
With the next edition of the T20 World Cup just over two months away, India’s top bowlers, given their recent injury struggles, are uncertain for the next one. ICC mega event too.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra made a bold statement regarding Bumrah’s recent setback. The former Indian cricketer turned pundit explained how Bumrah plays in a unique style which, at the same time, makes him more injury prone than other fast bowlers.
“We don’t know the nature of his injury. Yes, there is a problem…He doesn’t play regularly,” Chopra began of the subject on his YouTube channel when asked if he had more. information about Bumrah’s injury.
“But another thing to take into account is that his bowling action is very unusual. His ligaments are getting pressure in different parts of the body, it’s not very natural. Bowling itself is not very natural. It gives a lot of loads (on the body) and leads to injuries. Its action (of Bumrah) is very unorthodox and defies biomechanics a bit. In such a case, the risk of injury is greater. Maybe that it’s not about the workload, it’s about who Bumrah is, the injuries are going to be there with him.”
Additionally, Chopra asked the BCCI and the Indian team management to give Bumrah enough rest to keep him fit in all three formats as much as possible.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a national asset. He remains number one in all formats. But if he is injured, there will be problems,” concluded Chopra.
Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were unavailable for selection due to injuries. They are currently in rehab at the NCA in Bangalore.
Three players – Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar were named replacements.
