Jason Kidd comments on the Mavericks’ future

Jason Kidd spent one season as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

If history is any indication, this season is almost over.

His team has now lost 3-0 to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

No team has ever come back from such a deficit and it goes without saying that Dallas is on the ropes and almost out of the playoffs.

In fact, it seems Kidd knows it, from the way he talked about the team after the game.

Speaking to the press after another loss, Kidd said: “This is just the start of our journey. It’s cool to go there. It’s not the end, it’s only the beginning. »

These are kind and hopeful words – but they certainly don’t sound like the words of someone who thinks things can change.

Better luck next year

The Mavericks have definitely done better than expected this year.

When Kidd arrived, he had a lot to do and a lot to polish and perfect for Dallas.

Sure enough, he did a lot and the team finished the season in fourth place in the West.

He helped Luka Doncic become a better player, he raised many supporting stars and he toppled their weak defence.

All in all, the whole team should be proud of their progress.

Yet, there is still much to do.

The team still depends heavily on Doncic and he doesn’t get enough help when he needs it.

Many fans think the Mavericks are just one or two pieces away from being really great and ready for the Finals.

It may just be a start for the Mavs, but it’s a pretty good start.
