Jared Kushner said he was about to take a shower when McCarthy called about the Jan. 6 riot

Jared Kushner was about to jump in the shower as his stepfather’s supporters tried to overthrow American democracy on January 6, 2021.

In testimony released during Thursday night’s hearing of the House Select Committee investigating the U.S. Capitol riot, Kushner said he was in the shower when contacted by the chief of House Minority Kevin McCarthy on the escalation of violence as Congress meets to certify the results of the 2020 election.

“So I heard my phone ring, I turned off the shower, I saw it was Chief McCarthy, who I had a good relationship with. He told me it was getting really ugly in the Capitol and said, please, anything you could do to help, I would appreciate it,” Kushner said.

“I felt like they were scared,” he added.
