January 6 inquest found evidence of ‘extremely broad’ and chilling ‘conspiracy’

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) said on “CBS Sunday Morning” that the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 riot at the United States Capitol found evidence of an “extremely broad” conspiracy and “well organised”.

Journalist Robert Costa asked, “Are you convinced that what you have found as a committee is going to somehow grip the American people by the back and say, ‘Wake up: you have to be careful” ?

Cheney said, “I am. The threat, and it’s an ongoing threat, you know, we’re not in a situation where former President Trump has expressed any remorse about what happened. We are, in fact, in a situation where he continues to use even more extreme language, frankly, than the language that provoked the attack. And so, people have to be careful. People need to watch, and they need to understand how easily our democratic system can crumble if we don’t stand up for it.

Cheney said, “I didn’t learn anything that made me less worried.”

Costa asked, “Well, what are you most worried about?”

Cheney said, “Well, I think about the scope, the scope, the magnitude of this multi-pronged effort.”

Costa asked, “Was it a conspiracy?”

Cheney said, “I definitely think – I mean, look if you look at the court documents…”

Costa said, “But do you believe it was a conspiracy?”

Cheney said, “I do. It is extremely wide. It is extremely well organized. It’s really chilling.
