Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Mahatma Gandhi did not have a university degree and that he had a law degree is a “misconception”. Mr Sinha claimed that Gandhi ji’s only qualification was a high school diploma.

“Maybe a few people know this. But many people, even educated people, think that Gandhi ji had a law degree. Gandhi ji didn’t have a degree. Some people on stage may also have a contrary opinion, but I speak on the basis of facts,” Mr. Sinha said, without providing any evidence.

Mr. Sinha made the remarks during his keynote speech at the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Memorial Lecture in Gwalior.

Emphasizing that people should strive for more than just degrees, Mr Sinha said Gandhi ji’s only qualification was a high school diploma, but no one can say that Gandhi was uneducated.

“Can anyone say that Gandhiji was uneducated. I don’t think anyone has the guts to say that,” Mr Sinha said.

“But did you know that he didn’t have a single academic degree or qualification. Many of us think that Mahatma Gandhi had a law degree. No. He didn’t; his only qualification was a degree high school,” Mr. Sinha said. .

Governor J&K Lt said Gandhi achieved everything including freedom through the power of truth and became the father of the nation. He added that Gandhi practiced law without having a law degree, which explains how well-educated he was.

“He was qualified to practice law. He didn’t have a law degree. He didn’t have a degree. Look how educated he was, he became the father of the nation,” he said.
