Jamie Carragher denounces Manchester United’s “chaos” management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit and calls Red Devils hierarchy “incompetent” for lack of planning

Jamie Carragher has launched a scathing attack on the Manchester United hierarchy over his handling of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent months at the club.

The Norwegian was sacked on Sunday after a two-game winning streak in eight matches, including a 5-0 loss to rivals Liverpool and a derby loss to Manchester City.

The final straw was Saturday’s embarrassing 4-1 humiliation at the hands of Watford, with former midfielder and first-team coach Michael Carrick coming into the breach for the League draw of the champions at Villarreal on Tuesday.

Carragher, however, criticized the Red Devils for their lack of planning without a succession plan in place.

Mauricio Pochettino is the main managerial target and talkSPORT understands he might be willing to leave PSG in the middle of the season to accept the role.

But Carragher said the club’s lack of leadership, which resulted in Solskjaer’s sacking, demonstrated “incompetence” beyond belief.

“There is only one word to sum up Manchester United’s handling of the final months of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign: chaotic,” Carragher wrote in his weekly column for The Telegraph.

“Anyone writing a manual on how to replace a football coach should find the current events at Old Trafford useful.

“Just watch how they do it and do the opposite. “

“There is a breathtaking incompetence in the fact that a club of such stature have announced that they are ready to appoint two interim managers in the hope that the circumstances will eventually work their way and that ‘they will get their # 1 goal – presumably Mauricio Pochettino.

“We’re still less than a third of how far we’ve come in a Premier League campaign and Manchester United have indicated they want to see it through with two goalkeepers?” It’s amazing.

“How could they not have foreseen this situation? Where is the evidence of a well thought out and executed emergency plan? “

Pochettino spent nearly seven years in the Premier League between 2013 and 2019, first at Southampton, before turning Spurs into a trophy challenger domestically and in Europe.

It is understood that he would be ready to return to England – even in the middle of the season – as he is currently unhappy with the way PSG are being handled.

Manchester United are back in action on Tuesday as they take on Villarreal in the Champions League, live on talkSPORT 2, kicking off at 5:45 pm.
