The mid-season finale of Yellowstone season 5 begins with Rip and Lloyd disposing of Rowdy’s body while John waits in the car. On the way home, John asks Rip what Rowdy said about his daughter. Rip doesn’t say anything at first, but he later confirms it was something sexual. “Why did that bother you? John asks.

John demands to know if something is going on between Rip and Beth. Rip doesn’t say a word, but his face says it all. “It makes things much clearer,” says John. When they are both sitting by the fire, John talks to Rip about how he will have to give up everything for the ranch. “You will have a home until the day you die. Or when that ranch no longer exists,” says John.

John insists the ranch is worth fighting for and gives Rip the choice. “I didn’t know I had a choice,” Rip said. He chooses the ranch and gets marked.

Nowadays, Jimmy still works at 6666 Ranch and lives a happy life with Emily. He’ll see his friends from Yellowstone very soon.

Before leaving for Helena, John shares another quiet moment with Monica. She thanks him for his words after the death of her son. “It helped me more than you think,” Monica says. John has a big request for Monica while he’s gone. He asks her to help him watch the ranch while he’s the governor and Rip is in Texas. There is a house on the ranch near the reservation that needs work. “The ranch can’t ever belong to Tate if he’s not there,” he says. Monica tells John she and Kayce can help.

Jamie prepares to play his big game while John is away. He calls an emergency meeting of the assembly for John’s “gross act of negligence”. He tells the assembly that John has violated state law and exposed the state to litigation. Jamie continues to hammer John and asks for a Senate tribunal seeking impeachment.

Once news of Jamie’s latest betrayal becomes public, the press begins to stalk John at his event. John quickly says a few words and leaves. Back at the ranch, Summer shows Beth the video of Jamie’s appeal to impeach John. The rage is clear in his eyes.

Before leaving for Texas, Beth gives Rip a handkerchief that smells like her. She says she will fly to see him in a week. And with that, Rip and most of the dorms head south. Beth stops by Jamie to confront him about his latest bombshell. He’s in bed with Sarah. Beth refuses to leave and breaks a window to get in. There is a slight fight between them, but Jamie is the only one bleeding.

She urges him to resign tomorrow or she will post the photos of him disposing of his father’s body. Jamie tells her that if she exposes him, she also exposes John. He reveals to Beth that “a century’s worth” of their family secrets lies at the bottom of the canyon where they dump all the bodies. Beth had no idea.

Jamie tells her that she doesn’t know the true cost of protecting the ranch. “The biggest threat to this ranch is our father,” says Jamie. He says he will eliminate the threat. Sarah descends the stairs to claim her claim.

“Okay, this is war,” Beth said. Jamie thinks the war is over. “No, Jamie. The war has only just begun,” she told him.

Beth goes straight to the Governor’s mansion to confront John about the “train station”. She mentions that Jamie knows about it. John is well aware of this. “He will use everything he knows to destroy you. He was clear,” Beth says.

Beth thinks it’s time to get rid of Jamie. She asks John what he thinks about it. They talk quietly in the living room of the suite. Meanwhile, Jamie and Sarah have an equally dangerous conversation. He inquires about hiring someone to kill Beth. He wants to meet the people Sarah mentioned. She tells him that she will take care of it. They discuss hurting Beth, but it might not be a direct hit for her.

Monica explains the East Camp situation to him. He wants to make sure that’s what she really wants. She’s tired of renting a house and staring at a nursery that isn’t filled. The East Camp house would be theirs and they could start over. The next chapter for Monica, Kayce and Tate begins at the ranch.
