A new collaboration between Lennon and McCartney is the last thing anyone expected.

Yet Beatles fans have been surprised by a new single released by the sons of two of the Fab Four – James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon, who are musicians themselves.

The new single, titled “Primrose Hill”, after a north London park with panoramic views of the city, was announced by McCartney, son of Paul and his late wife Linda, on Instagram four days ago .

Along with a photo of the couple – who look strikingly like their famous fathers – he wrote: “‘Primrose Hill’ is here! Today I’m very excited to share my latest song co-written by my good friend @sean_ono_lennon. With the release of this song, I feel like we’re really starting to get the ball rolling and I’m so excited to continue sharing music with you.

In a separate post, McCartney revealed the inspiration behind the song. He said: “I had a vision when I was a child in Scotland, on a beautiful summer’s day. As I let go, I saw my true love and savior in my mind. “Primrose Hill” is about getting the ball rolling with me and finding that person.

Written and composed by the duo, the acoustic song recalls a time spent with a loved one at this popular beauty spot.

McCartney’s sister Mary, a professional photographer, also played a role in promoting the song, capturing short clips of her brother playing his piano and apparently in silhouette on Primrose Hill itself.

The second generation artists were both born in the 1970s, after the Beatles broke up.

There appears to have been no word from Ono Lennon, son of John and Yoko, but the song received a ringing endorsement from Macca himself. Signaling the release to his millions of followers around the world on social media, Paul McCartney wrote: “My son James has a new song out called ‘Primrose Hill’ – listen to it! And lots of love to Sean Ono Lennon who co-wrote the song.

The photo of the couple used to promote the song is not new. It was first posted by Ono Lennon on Instagram in 2018, captioned “Peakaboo…”

Primrose Hill, a trendy north London suburb, is a stone’s throw from Regent’s Park and the famous Camden Town Market. He’s no stranger to the rich and famous, and even spawned a “Primrose Hill set” in the 1990s after a host of stars – including Jude Law, Liam Gallagher and Kate Moss – are installed there.
