James Carville mocks GOP over Biden investigation

Longtime Democratic political consultant James Carville explained Wednesday why he was actually “happy” when House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced this week the opening of an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.
Carville, speaking to CNN’s Kaitlin Collins, predicted that Democrats on the committee investigating Biden would eat alive the Republicans leading the charge. He mocked two of those Republicans, Reps. James Comer (Ky.) and Jim Jordan (Ohio), calling them “borderline stupid.”
“I can’t tell you how much I wish they would do this (impeachment investigation). It’s a very stupid idea,” Carville said. “I want them to hold hearings. I want the American public to see how thin, if any, their arguments that the president did anything wrong are.
Carville said he wanted the lawyers to “make a fool of” Republicans and argued that the hearings would reveal how “tasteless and pointless this whole enterprise is.”
Collins asked: “I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but it sounds like you’re saying impeachment might be a good thing. Is it correct?”
” That’s right. You’re not putting words in my mouth,” Carville responded, later adding, “I was happy when McCarthy came out and said that. I thought, “Wow, how did we get so lucky?” »
McCarthy announced Monday the opening of an impeachment inquiry against Biden. Republicans accuse Biden of corruption in Ukraine, but the lack of evidence has prompted critics to call the proceedings a political witch hunt.
