Jake Paul insists the “door is closing” on a potential fight with Tommy Fury in 2022 after retiring from their highly anticipated fight with a medical issue.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the couple’s fight after months of chatting and taunting on social media.
The fight was scheduled to take place on December 18 in Tampa, Fla., But has now been called off with Paul rather set to face Tyron Woodley on the same date.
The boxer-turned-YouTuber beat the former UFC welterweight champion earlier in the year, but will now have to repeat the feat as he insisted the odds of a fight with Fury in 2022 are thin.
“The door is closing,” he told talkSPORT. “He’s unreliable. He did not show up at the first press conference. He’s faking those injuries or whatever.
“It’s overwhelming. So if he’s doing it now, then what’s stopping him from doing it next year.
“For me, in a cynical way, I just want to leave him in the dust and never give him this opportunity again.
On his reaction to the news, Paul said his opponent had “groped” the biggest opportunity of his career so far.
“I was upset,” he revealed. “A lot of things were said and I wanted to knock him out.
“I wanted to make him bleed and eat the canvas, that’s the most satisfying part, when your opponent has a lot to say and you knock him out and embarrass him in front of the whole world.
“I’m a little pissed off that I can’t do this.
“The kid is scared and broke under the pressure. The fight got hold of him and he missed the biggest opportunity of his life, missed the biggest paycheck of his life.
“He’s going to have to return all the Christmas presents he got Molly.”
Nonetheless, Paul is delighted that Woodley will step in to fight him as he’s happy to be able to give fans something to watch.
“I will fight anyone. Anywhere anytime. I mean it when I say it. This event, the fans wanted it. The fans paid for the tickets and the fans were hoping to see me fight before the end of the year.
“Not only that, all the people on the undercard, all the people fighting over vacations, paychecks, whatever. I couldn’t let them down, I couldn’t let the fans down.
“The show has to go on. It’s business and stuff like that happens in boxing and I just told my team that I will fight anyone, anyone.
“Tyron Woodley was down, he had trained for a fight in January and he has the balls to get in and intervene. It’s going to be exciting, almost a more exciting fight than Tommy Fury because Tyron is tougher. He is more experienced and wants to get this knockout.
“I’ll give him another $ 500,000 if he can knock me out.” It’s gonna be another crazy show and the show goes on.
