Jack Grealish appears to be inspired by Paul Gascoigne documentary as Manchester City aim for more assists

Jack Grealish has been glued to his television this week, watching a documentary about Paul Gascoigne – a player he has been compared to.

The club’s £100m summer signing is enthralled with the former England and Tottenham midfielder who has been hailed as the best of his generation.

Gascoigne is a footballing legend and enjoyed FA Cup success with Tottenham in 1991

At Wembley 31 years ago, Gascoigne, better known to fans as Gazza, scored one of the best goals in FA Cup history when his free-kick sailed past Arsenal from 35 yards out.

It helped Spurs beat their north London rivals 3-1 before winning the competition with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the final.

Fast forward three decades and Grealish will be hoping to do the same against Liverpool at Wembley.

The game, live on talkSPORT, will see both teams put their trophy ambitions on the line, as Man City look to secure the treble, while the Reds are still on course for an unprecedented treble.

And before kick-off, the 26-year-old posted a message on Instagram while watching the doc on Gazza.

He said, “What a player,” he wrote alongside a clip of the fan-favorite conversation.

Often throughout his career, Gascoigne was too hot for most defenses to handle.

Grealish, while also a superb talent, hasn’t quite been able to strike fear into the hearts of the back lines this season, having scored just four goals and provided three assists in 32 games in all competitions so far.

But he has the opportunity to increase that number on Saturday if he features, and he is determined to do so.

“As an attacking player you want goals and assists. I should definitely have more assists,” said the City star.

“I just need a few to fall in my way and then they will come. I shoot less than anyone. I do not know why.

“I should become more selfish. But I don’t really consider myself a selfish player. If someone is in a better position, I’ll pass.

“I love the feeling of an assist – the players come to thank you. It’s just nice.
