Jack Draper and Dan Evans score stunning Canadian Open wins as Brits storm third round

Three Britons have qualified for the third round of the Canadian Open, after the superb victories of Jack Draper and Dan Evans.

The pair will join Cameron Norrie in the Round of 16, after Draper beat Stefanos Tsitsipas to claim his first victory over a top-10 player and Evans shocked eighth seed Andrey Rublev.

Draper, who qualified to reach the main draw, battled back after a breakdown in the second set before wrapping up a stunning 7-5, 6-4 win over the third seed just before 1 a.m. in Montreal in the night.

World number 8 Tsitsipas committed 40 unforced errors, with his particularly finicky forehand.

Draper, the world number 82, takes on 17th seed Gael Monfils for a place in the quarter-finals today.

Evans picked up his fifth win over a top-10 player by beating Russia’s Rublev, with the 32-year-old set to face No.10 seed Taylor Fritz in the last 16.

Britain’s No.1 Norrie will face local hero Felix Auger-Aliassime for the second time in a week, having beaten Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets.

Norrie beat the Canadian on Saturday in the semi-final Abierto de Tenis Mifel but will have the crowd against him in their sixth head-to-head.
