‘It’s not true’ – Danny Murphy, Simon Jordan and Tony Cascarino hit back at Man City boss Pep Guardiola for suggesting bias towards Liverpool

talkSPORT pundits have hit back at Pep Guardiola’s suggestions there is a bias towards Liverpool.

Man City have the advantage in the title race as they hold a three-point lead with three games remaining, seemingly to deny Jurgen Klopp’s side a historic four-fold.

After watching his side beat Newcastle 5-0, Guardiola aimed for what he perceived to be favorable cover for the Merseysiders’ challenge.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, the Spaniard said: “A week ago we were ahead, (but) everyone in this country is supporting Liverpool, the media and everyone.

“Of course Liverpool have an incredible history, in Europe and in competitions. Not in the Premier League, I’ve just won one in 30 years. But that’s not a problem at all. The situation is what She is. “

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan disagreed with Guardiola’s assessment and said everyone wants City to reach the Champions League final.

“That’s not true,” he told White and Jordan. There might well be people who support Liverpool and there might well be people who like Liverpool’s brand of play more than Man City.

“But everyone wanted Man City to win that Champions League semi-final, everyone wanted to see an all-English final.

“The only way I can see an argument is that people want to see a quadruple. It’s something unique, it’s nothing against Manchester City.

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy, who is also a Liverpool fan, believes those with Reds allegiance can still be objective in their coverage.

He told talkSPORT: “I grew up as a Liverpool fan and played for Liverpool, but I also praised Klopp and Guardiola and the quality of football we see.

“It’s my job to do that. They are two wonderful teams who have been superbly put together and superbly managed, but two of the best managers in world football.

“All the pundits I know, even my Liverpool friends, speak highly of City.

“I work with Micah [Richards] and he speaks of Liverpool in glowing terms because you have to say what you see.

Tony Cascarino, the former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland striker, admitted there were plenty of Liverpool fans working in the media, but hoped they were all honest in their assessments.

“I’ve been in the media for 22 years,” Cascarino told Weekend Sports Breakfast. “There are a lot of Liverpool fans in the media.

“I could pretend to be lying to you, but there are loads of columnists, myself included, who have the Liverpool element.

Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup and are in the FA Cup and Champions League finals

“I’d like to think that we don’t all have a bias against other teams because that’s not our job. Our job is to be honest about everything, including Liverpool.

“I try to always think about it as a fan and try to talk openly about what I see with Liverpool and other clubs.

“But there are a huge number of Liverpool fans in the media, that’s absolutely true. I think Pep knows that, he feels that.

“I’m sure he feels like there’s a bias towards Liverpool.”
