‘It’s agony’ – Sir Alex Ferguson drops Liverpool joke as talkSPORT hosts slam decision to give Jurgen Klopp double Manager of the Season award against Man City’s Pep Guardiola

Jurgen Klopp has won a Manager of the Year double, collecting both the LMA and Premier League gongs, much to the surprise of talkSPORT pundits and the chagrin of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Liverpool boss picked up the awards after finishing second in the league, while winning the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and having a chance to win the Champions League against Real Madrid in the final at the weekend.

Klopp received the LMA award at a dinner party in London on Tuesday night, with Ferguson – after whom the award is named – announcing the winner and presenting the trophy.

The Manchester United legend reacted brilliantly when he read the name of the Liverpool boss saying: “It’s agony, absolute agony!”

While few may question Klopp’s AML victory, with his Liverpool side coming closer to winning four times than any other English team in history, many questions have been raised about his price tag in Premier League.

talkSPORT host Jamie O’Hara has been baffled by how well he managed to beat Pep Guardiola, after his side Manchester City were crowned champions on a dramatic final day of the season.

“Klopp didn’t win the league,” the former Tottenham midfielder told The Sports Bar.

“Let’s see what he’s competing against. You have managers like Thomas Frank whose job it was to keep Brentford in place and he finished 13th – it’s been an incredible season.

“Eddie Howe, last in the league when he took over, comes in and leads them to 11th – overtaken.

“Liverpool’s job every season is to win the league and they haven’t. So how does he deserve to be named Premier League Manager of the Year?

“I don’t know how he deserves this.

“I think that’s unacceptable and it shows why Pep Guardiola has the bump with the media when he talks about how much everyone loves Liverpool, because he won the Premier League, finished top with 93 points, they scored 99 goals, an amazing season – how did he not win Manager of the Year?”

That sentiment was echoed by Gabby Agbonlahor who admitted the decision didn’t add up.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I just don’t understand how Pep can win the league and not become Premier League Manager of the Season.

“It just doesn’t suit me.

“It’s like AC Milan winning the Scudetto and then giving the award to Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan, when they came second. It doesn’t make sense!”
