It’s a very good moment for Kai Havertz and it’s up to him to continue, says Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel has admitted that it’s difficult to exclude Kai Havertz from the starting line-up as his good form justifies his selection while also revealing that it’s up to the German to maintain his good form. The German midfielder scored twice in the London club’s victory over Burnley on Saturday.

Kai Havertz signed for chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020 for an initial fee of £62m, which could rise to £71m with add-ons, making him Chelsea’s second most expensive signing after Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The German midfielder failed to secure a regular place in the London club’s starting lineup, despite showing his ability on several occasions during his two years in England. Havertz made 77 appearances for the Blues while scoring seven goals and providing 46 assists in all competitions.

The former Leverkusen star helped the English giants win a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and a Champions League title in which he scored the decisive goal in the competition’s final . Havertz has replaced Romelu Lukaku in recent weeks, with the Germany international having started four of the Blues’ last five games and Chelsea boss Tuchel has explained the German’s unique abilities were the reason.

“Sure [it’s hard to leave out Havertz]. He gives a lot of intensity and he is involved in the goals. He scored again, so it’s a very good moment and it’s up to him to continue. It’s like that. What it gives us is enormous volume. He covers a lot of meters, he covers a lot of meters at high intensity, so he finds the intensity whatever system the opponent is defending against us, he finds intensive runs, he finds distances, ”Tuchel told GOAL.

“That’s what does it and he uses his body more and more. He loves to create overloads and half-spaces and that’s what he gives. It’s just his style of play, his characteristic of player. He’s fit, he’s confident,” he added.
