‘It’s a bit nasty’ – Fireworks and bottles thrown as Exeter and Port Vale fans clash after the Greeks missed out on the League Two title with the final day defeat

There were problems at St James Park after Exeter lost 1-0 to Port Vale and missed out on the chance to win the League Two title.

Rivals for top spot Forest Green Rovers could only manage a 2-2 draw with Mansfield, giving the Greeks a huge opportunity on the final day of the season.

However, in Devon, Exeter themselves lost to the Valiants, preventing them from taking advantage of the error.

The results also secured play-off places for Port Vale and Mansfield.

And after the final whistle on the south coast, supporters of both clubs took to the pitch.

And talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams revealed things had gotten a bit nasty between the groups of supporters.

He told GameDay Live: “We have the whole pitch covered with fans now. They’re facing each other and there’s just a small line of stewards and there’s stuff being thrown from Exeter fans towards Port Vale fans.

“We saw fireworks launched and also a few water bottles, plastic bottles.

“The Exeter players at the end of the game were all on their knees. They can’t believe they missed their chance to win the title on the final day.

“Port Vale, they all hugged on the touchline, it’s been a very emotional season off the pitch and now their season continues in the play-offs.

“Still things being thrown from side to side, it’s kind of mean actually.”
