‘It could be a good one’ – Rafael Dos Anjos teases Conor McGregor in next fight six years after historic UFC showdown fell through with injury

Rafael Dos Anjos is coming off a big win at UFC 272 and he now has his sights set on Conor McGregor.

The Brazilian was expected to meet McGregor in March 2016 when he was the lightweight champion, but injury forced him out of the contest when featherweight king McGregor was looking to become the first-ever two-weight champion in the league. history of the UFC.

Finally, RDA and McGregor could meet

With 11 days notice, Nate Diaz stepped in and beat McGregor – at welterweight – and kicked off one of the most lucrative mixed martial arts feuds of all time.

In August, McGregor got his revenge on Diaz and was ready to go again for lightweight gold, but Eddie Alvarez had defeated Dos Anjos in the meantime and the big fight passed him.

McGregor then defeated Alvarez at UFC 205 in November in one of the best title challenge performances in history and became the first fighter in promotion history to hold two titles simultaneously.

Islam Makhachev has been the man on the GDR’s radar for the longest time, but after the fight fell through for the third time recently, Dos Anjos is considering having a crack at McGregor.

“It looks like he will only fight Beneil Dariush,” Dos Anjos of Makhachev said. “He had a chance to fight me tonight [and] he did not do it. At 170 pounds, I took the fight. They didn’t, and I don’t know.

“He looks like Conor [McGregor] comes back in the summer. It could be a good one. [A] the title fight is already planned. We’ll see, man. Lots of things can happen.

The infamous “red panties” promo came from McGregor talking to Dos Anjos

“I just want to be active. I want to train. I need good names. Man, I’ve been in this game for so many years. Fought everyone in two divisions. I need names that make me want to hit the gym and train hard for it, you know? This is what I want.”

McGregor returns this summer after breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier last July. He wants a title shot, but Justin Gaethje is already facing champion Charles Oliveira in May.

Big names like RDA or Tony Ferguson make the most sense for McGregor right now, or maybe even finishing the trilogy with Diaz if he doesn’t manage to fight another McGregor rival in Dustin Poirier.

Colby Covington – victorious at UFC 272 as RDA – also called out Poirier, so there are a lot of moving parts for many future fights.

From McGregor’s point of view, he has recently targeted the man that RDA seems ready to leave – Makhachev. The Russian is a lifelong friend and is coached by McGregor’s biggest rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
