Israel strikes Syria, killing dozens; Netanyahu says Rafah attack preparations underway

A strike in Syria Friday morning killed dozens of Syrian soldiers and some members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group, a Hezbollah spokesperson told the Washington Post; Syria’s official news agency blamed Israel for the attack. In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the families of soldiers held captive in the Gaza Strip that continued military pressure was the only way to secure the release of the hostages, reiterating Israel’s intention to launch an offensive in the populated town of Rafah, south of Gaza.
