PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Israel ‘Izzy’ Flores is known as the Singing Security Guard. The 27-year-old’s voice brings a smile to everyone who hears it.
Now he’s booked a national audition in Las Vegas, and he hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams, no matter the obstacles.

“Singing has always been there for me when I’ve always felt lonely,” Flores said.
Flores sang almost all her life.
“When I was six, my mom bought me this karaoke machine,” Flores said.
The first time he performed on a stage, he said he knew that was where he wanted to stay.
“I closed my eyes for a moment and said I saw myself doing this for the rest of my life,” Flores said.
But life gave this budding artist an uphill battle early on.
“I live near Kensington and Allegheny, it’s basically known as zombie land, badlands,” Flores said.
Flores said he grew up seeing images of crime and violence all around him, but despite many difficult times, including being homeless, he continued to sing.

“You’ll never hear me sing,” Flores said. “I sang while walking to the subway, I walked to the corner store, I sing.”
He even found a place to sing in his day job as a security guard.
“They would be like, ‘Oh my god, your voice,'” Flores said. “And just hearing that from someone means so much to me.”
While Flores has been auditioning since he was 18 and even appeared on American Idol’s Hollywood tour, he’s still looking for his big break.
“One thing I learned is that no matter how many times you fall, you can get up immediately,” Flores said.
And no matter how many doors have been closed before, Flores does not give up.
“At the end of the day, this is your dream, and it will only come true if you work hard to achieve it,” Flores said.
He is determined to let nothing stand in the way of the realization of his dream.
