House Speaker Mike Johnson reached a deal with the White House and top Democrats that would keep government funding at current levels through Dec. 20.

The House of Representatives plans to vote this week on the three-month stopgap funding bill, as Donald Trump pressures Republicans to shut down the government without policy concessions they have no realistic chance of getting. The deal, which will be voted on this week, leaves out a provision proposed by Trump that would revise the statewide election law to require proof of citizenship to vote.

As the House adjourned for the week Friday, Johnson declined to say whether Trump, whom he has consulted regularly during the funding battle, would agree to propose a funding plan without the citizen vote component, known as the SAVE Act. Trump and Johnson met in Washington on Thursday.

The federal government will shut down at 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 1 unless Congress can pass a short-term funding bill, known as a continuing resolution, or CR. President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have both expressed support for CR.

The House of Representatives plans to take up the CR bill by midweek. While it does not include the SAVE Act, the short-term bill contains $231 million in additional funding for the Secret Service following the latest apparent assassination attempt on Trump on September 15. Johnson’s CR bill is expected to pass the House with ease, with the support of a large number of Republicans and Democrats. But there is still a faction of conservatives who swear to vote no.

Israel orders civilians to evacuate as it launches ‘extensive’ strikes across Lebanon

The Israeli military this morning warned civilians in southern Lebanon to move away from Hezbollah positions as it stepped up attacks on its neighbor.

“Soon, the IDF will launch extensive and precise strikes against terrorist targets widely located throughout Lebanon,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said.

This is the first such warning issued by the IDF in Lebanon, an Israeli military official told NBC News, adding that the current campaign involves only airstrikes. The announcement comes amid an escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which reached new heights last week when pagers and walkie-talkies belonging to Hezbollah operatives were blown up in a stunning Israeli operation.

A rare airstrike killed at least 45 people in a densely populated Beirut suburb on Friday, including senior Hezbollah members and dozens of civilians. The militia responded with its own series of attacks, firing dozens of rockets toward Israel in one of its deepest strikes since the start of the war. Here’s what else you need to know.

The shooting happened outside Hush, a bar in the historic Five Points South nightlife district, according to an NBC affiliate in Birmingham. People were waiting in line to get into the bar when gunfire erupted. It was the second mass shooting in the city this year. In July, four people were killed at a nightclub.
