Israel-Hamas War LIVE | More than a million people have fled their homes in the Gaza Strip ahead of a planned Israeli invasion that aims to eliminate the Hamas leadership after its deadly incursion. Aid groups warn that an Israeli ground offensive could accelerate a humanitarian crisis.
Israeli forces, backed by U.S. warships, have positioned themselves along the Gaza border and trained as part of what Israel has called a broad campaign to dismantle the militant group. A week of heavy airstrikes destroyed neighborhoods but failed to stop militants’ rocket fire into Israel.
The war that began on October 7 has become the deadliest of Gaza’s five wars for both sides, with more than 4,000 dead. Gaza’s health ministry said 2,670 Palestinians were killed and 9,600 injured. More than 1,400 Israelis were killed and at least 155 others, including children, were captured by Hamas and taken to Gaza, according to Israel.
