Illinois State Soldier Brian Frank did not need to be away Monday during the heavy snowstorm. He was on his way home to see his wife Lauren Frank, aged two and a half.
But he stopped to witness an accident on I-55 near Highway 30 in Joliet, when a black Cadillac with a 20-year-old at the wheel crashed into the back of Brian’s car.

He was taken to hospital in a helicopter. Frank’s wife Lauren said he had surgery for a brain injury. He is in a coma and more surgeries are expected.
“If a man can do that, and beat that, and prove everybody wrong, it’s Brian,” Lauren Frank said.
The ISP said the driver who struck Brian failed to exit an emergency vehicle.
