Is Your Crypto at Risk? Avalanche, Polygon, and ZkSync Discords Have Been Hacked!
- Recent crypto breaches have affected Polygon, Avalanche, and ZkSync’s Discord servers, causing financial losses.
- The value of tokens has decreased, highlighting the need for user vigilance despite security measures.
This past weekend dealt a major blow to the crypto community, as major networks faced a series of coordinated attacks.
Just 48 hours after a breach of Polygon’s (MATIC) Discord channel, the official Discord servers for the Layer-1 Avalanche network and Layer-2 ZKsync blockchain were also targeted with separate exploits.
Avalanche Discord Compromised
On August 25, the official Avalanche (AVAX) X account announced that its Discord server had been compromised, warning users to avoid interacting with links.
Screenshots shared by Avalanche Discord members revealed that the attackers posted fraudulent links promoting fake Avalanche token “distribution” schemes and falsely promising free AVAX to holders and community members.
About an hour later, Avalanche community manager Ben Well confirmed that the team had identified and resolved the issue and that efforts were underway to restore the server to normal operations.
This incident had a notable impact on Avalanche’s native token, AVAX, which dropped to $26.22 after enjoying a period of positive trading.
However, recent data shows that AVAX has since recovered slightly, trading at $27, although it still saw a modest decline of 0.07% over the past 24 hours.
ZkSync’s Discord fell into the same prey
While the crypto community was still processing the news of the Avalanche breach, reports emerged that the official ZkSync Discord server had also been compromised an hour later.
Hackers have posted deceptive links promoting a fake “second round airdrop” scheme, falsely promising users free ZK tokens.
While ZkSync has yet to officially address the exploit on X, several members of the team have acknowledged the breach within the Discord server.
What happened to Polygon’s Discord channel?
For those unaware, on August 24, Polygon’s Chief Information Security Officer Mudit Gupta confirmed the incident and warned users to refrain from interacting with links shared in the compromised channel until the issue is fully resolved.
As a victim of the attack, a user named ValidatorK reported a significant loss of $150,000 in Ether after interacting with what appeared to be an official announcement on Polygon’s Discord channel.
The breach also affected MATIC, which saw a drop as a result. In fact, as of the last update, MATIC was still down over 5% in the past 24 hours, trading at $0.5224.
