Iraqi cleric calls for constitution, electoral changes and deepening political crisis

BAGHDAD—Influential clergyman Moqtada al-Sadr called for changes to Iraq’s constitution and electoral procedures a day after his supporters occupied the parliament building, deepening his standoff with an alliance of Shiite rivals backed by Iran.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Sadr called the takeover of parliament a “revolution” and an “opportunity for radical change” in the political process that should not be wasted.
