Hugh Edmeades collapsed on stage during Saturday’s IPL auction

The 2022 Indian Premier League auction has been suspended after auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed on stage during the event.

Edmeades, who was leading the IPL auction for a fourth consecutive season, was overseeing the auction on the third batch of players on Saturday when he suddenly collapsed from his position on the podium.

Staff from the teams present watched in horror as the Briton was treated by Bengalaru medical staff.

ESPNcricinfo reported that the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) said Edmeades is “stable” and his collapse was caused by low blood pressure.

A BCCI spokesman said: “Our auctioneer is stable. Doctors are looking after him. He should be back for the next set.”

Several IPL teams took to social media shortly after the incident to wish Edmeades luck, while the Punjab Kings confirmed the auction would resume at 3:30 p.m. local time (1000 GMT).
