IPL 2022 | Were a bit nervous due to Covid-19 concerns, admits Rishabh Pant

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant admitted they were a bit nervous about playing IPL 2022 after being recently hit by Covid-19. DC, after beating Punjab Kings less than 48 hours ago, will next meet Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday April 23 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Delhi Capitals (DC) became the first (so far only) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be hit by Covid-19. There have already been six positive cases of coronavirus, the last to be infected was Tim Seifert. Skipper Rishab Pantingfollowing the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in their camp, felt that they were at risk to continue participating in the IPL 2022.

The swaggering wicketkeeper was asked how he and his side’s management felt after Covid-19 entered their side following their resounding nine-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday April 20 at the Brabourne Stadium in mumbai. Pant admitted there was a lot of tension about it, but their main focus had always been the game.

“There was a lot of confusion as we learned of the positive test in the morning (Tim Seifert). We were a bit nervous and there was talk about the game being canceled. But we said as a team that we have to just focus on the game,” Pant replied during the post-game presentation.

DC, after knocking out PBKS for 115 in 20 overs, went after the target in just 10.3 overs. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner played with the bat, hitting 20 balls 41 and 30 balls undefeated 60 respectively to get the job done quickly. Pant, when asked about his message to them, said he didn’t need to speak to them as they are well aware of their responsibilities.

“Most of the time I like to leave them (Warner and Shaw) alone because they know their roles. Delhi Capitals have to go through every game. The results are not in our control but we have to give our all in our matches.

“On a wicket like this, after one or two overs, I saw that the ball was coming to rest a bit and I thought I should use more spin. I thought 150 would be a good enough score for the stop,” added Pant.

DC will reunite next time Rajasthani Royals (RR) on Friday, April 22 during IPL 2022 Game 36 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
