IPL 2022 | Washington Sundar was not in a state where he could bowl, says Tom Moody

Sunrisers Hyderabad out-spinner Washington Sundar suffered a setback after sustaining a bowling hand injury in the game against Chennai Super Kings. SRH coach Tom Moody spoke about Washington Sundar’s injury and also explained how his injury impacted the team in the game against CSK.

Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their fourth defeat in IPL 2022 in the game against Chennai Super Kings Sunday after losing the game by 13 points. It was the second time this season that Kane WilliamsonThe team lost to the four-time champions but still managed to retain fourth place in the points table. During the match, Washington Sundar injured his bowling hand while trying to save a boundary due to which he was unable to throw even a single during the game.

SRH head coach Tom Moody spoke about Washington Sundar’s injury and said his injury did not help his team in the game against CSK. “Unfortunately for him he received a blow on the same hand where he split his strap and got stitches. He had healed completely, but he injured that area again. It’s not to the point where he needs a new stitch but it wasn’t in a state he could bowl in. So it’s incredibly unlucky for him and his injury hit us in the first phase of our bowling being given that he plays such a critical role for us in the first 10 overs,” Tom Moody said at the post-match press conference.

He also talked about T.Natarajan having to walk away after bowling due to injury. Although Natarajan returned to complete his spell, it did not help them and made things difficult for skipper Kane Williamson. “At the end of the day, when you lose one of your important bowlers, whether it’s a spinner or not, it’s a blow to the side. It wasn’t just that situation for us as we also had Natarajan off the pitch with an injury which was taking time before he could come back,” he said.

“So basically we had 7 sets that hadn’t been bowled by front row bowlers until the 14th to 15th sets. So it was very difficult for Kane to deal with the situation in the middle and as a result we chased a total of 20-30 points more than he should have been,” added Tom Moody.
