Virat Kohli’s batting position is a topic of discussion every year before the start of the Indian Premier League season. The former RCB skipper has opened the batting for his side in the IPL over the past few seasons but Ravi Shastri believes his position this year will come down to the balance of the RCB.
Virat Kohlibatting position while playing for his IPL franchise, the Bangalore Royal Challengers was a hot topic of debate ahead of the season. The right-handed hitter opens the bat for RCB and has been successful there for quite some time. Many pundits and cricket fans are split as some believe he should strike at number 3 while others believe the opening innings suits him better.
Former India manager Ravi Shastri opened up about the issue and explained where Virat Kohli should strike. Ravi Shastri is of the opinion that Virat Kohli should open batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, he also said that a lot also depends on the balance on the RCB side.
During a conversation on ESPNCricinfo’s T20 Time Out video show, Ravi Shastri said: “It depends on the balance of the team”.
He added: “I wouldn’t know what their middle order is, but just in case they have a really strong middle order, then there’s no harm in opening Virat.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore will play their first game against Punjab Kings on March 27 of the IPL 2022 season. With Virat Kohli not in charge of the Bangalore-based franchise, it will be interesting to see how the new skipper FAF DuPlessis fares in their opening match as leader.
