IPL 2022 | Umran Malik is fantastic, says SRH bowling coach Dale Steyn

Sunrisers Hyderabad are back on their winning ways after losing the first two games of IPL 2022 and are now looking to make the most of the momentum they have. The Hyderabad team are doing exceptionally well in the bowling department and Umran Malik’s pace has been the talk of the season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders with ease and are now looking to move towards the top half of the points table. The team clicked as a unit, which is a great sign for the Kane Williamson– directed team. SRH’s bowling has always been an asset to them over the years and this time around was no exception.

Fast bowlers do a great job for their team and Umran Malik looks like the most threatening bowler for them. Malik’s pace is breathtaking as he regularly hits the 150km/h range, which was a rare sight for most Indian fast bowlers until now. SRH Bowling Coach Dale Steyn were nothing but praise for youngster Umran Malik after the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The former South African cricketer in conversation with host broadcaster Star Sports said: “Umran is fantastic. It (his performances) doesn’t reflect me at all. It’s all about him at the moment. He has amazing skills, he’s showing everyone, bowling at 150 mph. I kind of live through him, wish I could do that. But that’s all him right now. He’s definitely someone ‘one we should keep an eye on for the future’.

Dale Steyn was asked how much opportunity Umran Malik had to learn from the best people, to which he responded by saying, “I felt the same way when I was playing. I had someone like Alan Donald in the locker room. I idolized Alan. When he congratulated me when I did something, it was fantastic, I kinda want to do the same for Umran.

He further praised the fast young bowler for his performance and did not take credit for the youth bowling performance in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

“It’s all about him. I’m just going to be there to put an arm around him when things aren’t going well and I’m just going to be there to shake his hand when things are going really well.”
