Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Deepak Hooda said his favorite team is Chennai Super Kings and wants to play under MS Dhoni. Hooda recently won Team India’s call-up for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, which is set to start on February 6.
India will host the West Indies for all three ODIs and as many T20Is, and the tour will begin with the first 50 over game on February 6 in Ahmedabad. The remaining two ODIs will also be played at the same venue, while T20I will be held in Kolkata. the BCCI announced the Indian squad for the white ball series against the West Indies, and Deepak Hooda made a surprise entry into the ODI squad.
Hooda had a productive 2021/22 domestic season, as he scored 291 points in 5 games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 26-year-old’s stellar batting performance helped him catch the attention of selectors.
Meanwhile, Hooda in a recent interview with India News said his favorite IPL team is Chennai Super Kingsand he wants to play under the direction of MS Dhoni. The 26-year-old further revealed that he is a die-hard Dhoni fan.
“There is no such thing. At the moment Deepak is not waiting for the auction of 12 and 13, he is just waiting for the 6. There is no team as such, I just want to play. But my personal favorite team is Chennai Super Kings. I’m like a kid who wants to play under MS Dhoni,” Hooda told India News.
“I am a die-hard fan of MS Dhoni, I also like his leadership. I spoke to him many times. When I came to Indian team earlier also, Dhoni bhai was also there. Then I had also used to talk to him and after that every time we met we talked,” he added.
Hooda was part of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) team for the past two IPL seasons but the all-rounder was left out of the franchise ahead of the mega auction. The versatile spin bowler felt he learned a lot from Anil Kumblewho is the franchise’s director of cricketing operations.
“I have learned a lot from Anil Kumble over the past two years. He is a legend himself, he has 1000 international wickets. Obviously, even if you speak a phrase or a word with him, it is a learning for you. I was able to handle the pressure better because Anil Sir was there.
“I have matured a lot in the last two years. I was surrounded by very good people, Anil Sir is one of them, who improved me mentally and my game. I had gone there after not playing at the national cricket but I still played the first game of the IPL. The way he was explaining my role, I was extremely clear,” added Hooda.
